Scientific Career

Dr. Marten Maeß studied biochemisty at the faculty for biosciences and pharmacy of Leipzig University. During that time, he participated in the Erasmus exchange program of the European Union and studied biochemistry at Glasgow University (UK) for one year. He worked on his diploma thesis at the Environmental research center Halle/Leipzig (Helmholtz Gesellschaft) investigating the evolutionary adaptation of herbicide degrading bacteria. Subsequently Dr. Maeß was a Ph.D. student at the faculty of biosciences of Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany under the supervision of Prof. Dr. habil. Lorkowski. His Ph.D. thesis was focused on investigating the regulation of activation and of polarization of macrophages in atherosclerosis. Afterwards he became first a postdoctoral research fellow and later an associate professor at the Medical University in Hamamatsu, Japan. There he researched on the development of molecular NIR probes for the detection of atherosclerotic plaques and the macrophage interaction during blood coagulation.

Currently Dr. Maeß is a European Patent Attorney Trainee at CH Kilger Anwaltspartnerschaft mbB in Berlin.
