Dr. Matheus Regis Belisário Ferrari was born in Brazil and holds dual Brazilian and Italian citizenship. During his specialization and master’s studies at the Federal University of Paraná, he worked on the characterization of enzymes from brown spider venom, contributing to published research on their role in venom-induced physiological effects.
After being awarded a travel grant from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) to attend a workshop in Heidelberg, Germany, Dr. Ferrari decided to pursue his Ph.D. in Germany. He subsequently joined the University of Leipzig, where he focused on the engineering of plastic-degrading enzymes and the development of a high-throughput assay for analyzing the enzymatic hydrolysis of model substrates. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
Upon completing his Ph.D., Dr. Ferrari worked as a researcher and technical assistant at the Institute for Drug Development in Leipzig, where, among other responsibilities, he supervised, master’s, and Ph.D. students and managed research projects. He also co-founded WowBotanics GbR, successfully navigating the trademark registration process, which sparked his interest in intellectual property.
