  • M.Sc. in Genomics Biotechnology at University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Biochemical Science Department “A. Rossi Fanelli”, Rome, Italy
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Biomaterial Department, Potsdam, Germany
  • Postdoctoral Researcher at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Biomolecular System department, Potsdam, Germany

Dr. Maria Antonietta Carillo is a Technical Expert at CH Kilger Anwaltspartnerschaft mbB. Her main technical areas of expertise are in the field of Biochemistry and Protein Chemistry. During her Ph.D studies, Dr. Carillo was interested in understanding the hierarchical structures of specific bacterial proteins observed in magnetotactic bacteria. The design principles extracted from this study have been applied to build bio-inspired 1D magnetic nanostructures in vitro.

As postdoctoral researcher, she focused on glycoproteins and worked on the optimization of new strategies for the semi-synthesis glycophosphatidylinositols (GPI) anchored proteins from Plasmodium falciparum for anti-malaria drug development. In addition, she worked on the production and characterization of carbohydrates conjugated to proteins for studying the immunological properties of the carbohydrates.
