Dr. Diogo Abreu
- B.Sc. in Applied Biology at University of Minho, Portugal
- M.Sc. in Medicine and molecular Oncology at Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, Portugal
- Doctoral studies in Medical Sciences (Dr. rer. medic.) at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany
Diogo Abreu’s scientific background covers cancer biology, molecular biology, and cell biology, with a particular focus on patient-derived organoid models and multiparametric drug screening, providing a solid foundation in translational oncology research.
Diogo began his research career during his bachelor thesis, where he explored the effects of various chemotherapy agents on cell fate determination. His research focus subsequently shifted towards cancer biology during his master’s degree, where he investigated the impact of mitochondrial DNA mutations on chromatin remodeling through epigenomic alterations and post-translational modifications using cybrid cell lines.
For his doctoral research, Diogo focused on the characterization of a specific oncogenic mutation and drug resistance mechanisms in breast cancer and colorectal cancer, employing a spectrum of molecular biological and biochemical techniques.
